Image reconstruction method for periodically moving objects with rest and motion phase, e.g. tomography of human heart

The method involves using a detector unit on a gantry (7) with at least two detector rows arranged perpendicular to a rotation axis (6) and separated parallel to the axis by a detector height. The gantry rotates about the rotation axis. Measurement data sets are acquired by each row at a number of rotation angles during the rest phase as the gantry rotates through an angle at least as great as the reconstruction angular range required for reconstruction. The object (9) is reconstructed from the data sets using a three-dimensional back projection algorithm.
