The information transmission system uses a control processor (10) detecting the momentary position of the train and calculating the time interval before reaching a required station (2), to provide a call signal transmitted to a mobile radio receiver (20), e.g. a mobile telephone, for alerting the passenger, when the calculated time interval coincides with a programmed alert time interval.
