The device has a fixed reference station (1) and a rover station with a satellite antenna (3). The rover station antenna is mounted on a vehicle (8), e.g. motorbike and is secured in a mounting above the front wheel, which is placed directly over the desired measurement point, e.g. a manhole cover. After a simple adjustment of the antenna, a measurement can be taken and the motorbike driven to the next point to be surveyed.
