The chip resistor consists of a substrate (1) with a pair of electrodes (3) attached to it and a resistor (2) which is connected to the electrodes. The resistor is formed on the substrate using laser trimming to produce grooves (4) that provides the desired pattern and resistance. The pattern itself has a long branch (4a) that extends from an intermediate point on the resistor to an electrode and a shorter branch (4b) that extends between the intermediate point and the longer branch.
