An integrated circuit (IC) for switching at least one load (Ln) includes an output stage associated with this load which has a low-side switch (Tn) having a zener diode arranged from its control terminal to its terminal (An) connected to the load. The zener diode is designed as a zener structure with adjustable zener voltage (zn) and a sample-and-hold circuit (SH) is used in which a voltage value (UB) can be tapped from a terminal (An) between the load (Ln) and its associated low-side switch (Tn), and stored. The stored voltage (UB) is then supplied to a logic circuit (Ls). A storage device (Kf) is associated with the logic circuit and at least one pre-determined voltage value assigned to the load (Ln) is filed in it, and in the logic circuit, the given voltage value (un) together with the voltage value (UB) stored in the sample-and-hold circuit (SH) is added to a value (zn) for the zener voltage zn = UB + un, to which the zener structure (Zn) of the low-side switch (Tn) associated with the controlled load (Ln) is adjusted.
