Internal combustion engine valve tappet comprises inner and outer section coupled and decoupled via spring-powered slide in section mountings to maximize or zero gas valve stroke
The outer section (2) of the tappet (1) is pot-shaped. Its bottom (6) provides the cam contact face (5) as opposed to the inner tappet section (4) as demarcated by the cam face. Thus when the two sections (2,4) are coupled by coupler (23), the gas reverser valve is set to maximum travel but when the sections (2,4) are uncoupled the valve travel is zeroed. The camshaft-facing side (16) of the inner section (4) and the outer section (2) bottom (6) are one or more compression springs (18) and the radial or secant mounting (22,21) of the sections lie flush with sections uncoupled when the cam is in base circle contact with the tappet (1). Coupling is effected by a slide which runs in the mountings and is moved in one or other mounting by spring (25) for coupling the sections so as to traverse an annular surface (34) between the sections to mechanically couple the section assisted by a twist preventer (30) specifically a fixably guided piston.
