The frame system for modular pieces of furniture comprises at least two vertical columns to which elements are horizontally and or vertically fixed. The vertical columns consist of several tubular support elements (2) with joint elements (3) and functional elements held together by an internal tie-rod (7). The tie-rod is fixed to a top cap or a horizontal element and bottom functional element (5). the end sides of the circular joint has tapered parts (8).
