New dimeric ion pairs containing cationic and anionic metal complexes; useful as low viscosity contrast agents for X-ray, magnetic resonance and radiodiagnostic techniques, and as radiotherapy agents

Dimeric ion pairs (I) a containing dimeric or monomeric cyclic, cationic metal complex and a dimeric or monomeric cyclic, anionic metal complex are new. Dimeric ion pairs of formula MkneMamf (I) are new. Mk = a dimeric or monomeric cyclic, cationic metal complex; Ma = a dimeric or monomeric cyclic, anionic metal complex; e = the charge of Mk; f = the charge of Ma; n = the number of ions Mk; m = the number of ions Ma. Provided that at least one of Mk and Ma is a dimer.
