An inorganic ceramic-like foam with intrinsic adhesive power is based on a ceramic-forming powder (mixture), which is bound chemically and mechanically by a phase richer in silicon, and has a closed porosity of over 50, preferably over 80 vol.%, a density less than 1.2 g/cm3 and an irreversible expansion or contraction less than 5% in the 500-1500 deg C range. An Independent claim is also included for a method for producing the foam.
