The electronic scale includes a clock component (22) which terminates sleep mode, and switches to the normal- or stand-by mode at the end of a predetermined period of time or to a predetermined time of day. The electronic scale includes a line-supplied voltage supply (5) composed of a transformer (6) and a rectifier (7) with charge capacitor (8), and an electrically activated line switch (9) arranged between the transformer and a line supply connection (10). The scale has at least two working conditions, whereby all electronic components are provided with voltage in a normal operating mode, and essential, heat-producing components are switched on in a stand-by operating mode, while age-sensitive components and a display (3) are switched off. A power supply (20, 30) is provided, independent of the line supply, which supplies at least one clock component (22). A further operating mode, i.e. sleep mode, is provided, whereby the line switch is opened, and whereby the clock component terminates the further operating mode, and switches to the normal- or stand-by mode at the end of a predetermined period of time or to a predetermined time of day.
