Negative silver halide emulsion has coated grains with = 50 mole-% silver bromide, = 0.5 mole-% silver iodide (AgI) and } 10 mole-% silver chloride. One layer (I), not the core or outermost shell, has the highest AgI content of all layers and contains 3-30 mole-% of the total amount of silver, whilst the outer shell contains 20-60 mole-%. The novelty is that (I) is doped with group IIIA-VIIIA metal(s), copper, gold, zinc or cadmium. An Independent claim is also included for photographic material with a substrate and light-sensitive silver halide emulsion layer(s) of this type.
