The HV pulse generation circuit has a switched arc path (Ro), e.g. a photographic flash lamp, used for discharging a first series storage capacitor (Cs1) and a second parallel storage capacitor (Cs3) via a third storage capacitor (Cb), the first and second storage capacitors charged via independent DC voltage sources (Q1,Q2) and isolated from one another via a pair of opposing diodes (V1, V2), with ignition of the switched arc path controlled by a thyristor trigger circuit.
