A lighting element (10) comprises a light guide supplied with light at an oblique angle. A light source element (10) comprises (a) a light guide (1) with back and longitudinal side faces (1C, 1D) covered with light reflective or diffuse back-scattering reflectors (4); and (b) one or more light coupling units (5) positioned on the longitudinal side faces (1C, 1D) or on the back face, each unit including a light source (5A) facing a reflector opening region (5B) such that light enters the light guide (1) at an oblique angle.
