The outboard drive has a fixed housing (17) enclosing a motor (18) at the stern of the boat, with the drive output shaft (30) coupled to a propeller drive (21) within a propeller drive housing (22), which is pivoted about a vertical control axis (24) via the rudder and which has a vertical propeller shaft driving a propeller (28) at its bottom end. The propeller drive is provided as a separate unit attached to the rear wall of the motor housing, the drive output shaft extending horizontally and coupled to the propeller drive via cooperating conical drive splines (31,32).
