The arrangement has a valve (7) via which the gases present in a vehicle fuel tank (1) during filling can escape. The valve is opened or closed in response to a control signal from a control device (19) that responds to the ventilation device (5). The tank contains a liquid level sensor (15) connected to the controller. An Independent claim is also included for a method of ventilating fuel tanks.
