The writing implement has a casing with several cartridges, at least one of which is a lead insert, with a rear chamber for replacement leads. The front end of an open-ended filler tube (36) projects into the rear end (34) of the lead chamber (30). It engages sliding on the inside of the chamber, extends to near the rear end of the casing (10,12), and is axially fixed in the casing relative to the lead chamber, which is moved axially when a cartridge mechanism (22,23) is operated. The open rear end of the filler tube is accessible when a casing cap (24) is removed.
