The use of desoxypeganine (I) for treating drug addiction and/or drug dependence is new. The use of desoxypeganine of formula (I) and/or its acid addition salt is claimed for the preparation of medicament for treating drug addiction and/or drug dependence. Independent claims are included for: (1) the preparation of a pharmaceutical formulation for treating drug addiction and/or drug dependence, by incorporating (I) and/or its acid addition salt (in the form of solid, solution or dispersion in an inorganic or organic medium) in the formulation, optionally together with additional additives; and (2) a method of treating drug addiction and/or drug dependence, involving administration of (I) and/or its acid addition salt.
