Microbial production of L-valine (I) uses a microorganism in which either the dihydroxyacid dehydratase activity and/or gene expression or the acetohydroxy acid synthase and isomeroreductase activity and/or gene expression has been increased. An Independent claim is also included for a microorganism (A), transformed with a genetic construct containing the dihydroxyacid dehydratase and/or acetohydroxy acid synthase genes and having the activity of at least one enzyme involved in synthesis of D-pantothenate (II) reduced or eliminated.
