The universal holder is releasably attached to the desk. The holder can accommodate various additions to the desk, or serves as a desk extension. The desk has one or more similar openings for receiving one or more universal holders, located between the support frame and the desktop, or between other parts of the desk. Alternatively the desk has several similar slots in the desktop, sidewall, back wall or other component of the desk.
