The body (2) of the road vehicle overturn protection device moves outwards in the event of an accident, its outwardly moved position being secured by a catch arrangement (1). This position can be manually released by a member (4b) of a rotarily linked spring-tensioned catch component (4). A manually operable key arrangement formed with a self-holding mechanism (10,11) is provided, which can be brought into effective engagement with the member on the catch component so that the catch arrangement is released in self-retention. An operating component (13) removes the self-retention at a predetermined lower position of the overturn body.
