The water depth indicator (4) has a float body (5) made of a material with a lesser specific weight than water and an angling line guide provided by a clamp (7,8) displaced between a closed and an open position in which the angling line is clamped and released respectively. The clamp is spring loaded in the closed direction and has a defined friction force which is less than the action of the float body on the angling line. An Independent claim for use of a water depth indicator with an angling rod is also included.
