The device has a housing with chamber for an electrically ignited propellant material. The chamber (10) contains an advanced ignition unit (14) next to the propellant (9), in a recess (13) of a housing wall, which is in heat exchange contact with its surroundings. The unit ignites when heat at a relatively low temperature is present, e.g. between 130 deg C and 250 deg C, esp. 170 deg C. The recess is formed in the cap (4) covering the ignition chamber.
