The pipe has a reinforcement consisting of longitudinal wires (4) bonded to spirally wound strips of (10,10') of grid material or expanded metal. The components of the grid (11,11') or expanded metal are at an angle ( alpha , beta ), e.g. 45 deg . The outer (2) and inner (6) thermoplastic layers are extruded over the reinforcement and penetrate into the holes (12) in the reinforcement. An Independent claim is also included for the process of manufacture comprising the stages of placing the longitudinal reinforcement (4) on a mandrel, winding the strips (10) and joining them, e.g. by welding, where they touch. The thermoplastic inner and outer layers (2,6) are then extruded into position.
