The adaptive coding method has the rate at which the data coder switches between different codes altered in real time. This is used for approximating an optimum value for coding the data, so that the output signals contain '0 and 1 bits with equal frequency. Independent claims are included for a coder for data coding, a data coding apparatus, a code selection apparatus, and a storage medium product containing a program or control commands for data processing.
