The device has an ultrasound probe with an ultrasound oscillator array (20) arranged at the tip (12) of an insertion element (11). The oscillators (21) are arranged perpendicular to radial lines originating at a common origin. An ultrasound scanning sector is thus produced in a direction that is towards the side of the insertion element tip. An Independent claim is included for a scanning system incorporating the probe.
