A device for use in a vehicle has the following: - an inflatable vehicle passenger protection device (airbag); - an operable inflation device which provides inflation flow medium to inflate the airbag device, the inflation device having an extensive number of outlets inside the inflatable vehicle passenger protection device and by which inflation flow medium exhausted; and - a retaining ring which is fastened to the airbag, surrounding the inflation device and defining an annular chamber which is found radially outwards from the number of outlets in the inflation device. The retaining ring has an extensive number of outlets in flow medium technology exchange with the annular chamber. The annular chamber and the outlets, upon operation of the inflation device, deflect the inflation flow media that flow from the outlets into the inflatable vehicle passenger protection device in order to restrain the inflation flow media from impinging directly onto the inner surface of the inflatable vehicle passenger protection device when the inflation flow media are directed out of the inflation device.
