The fuel supply device has a supply pump (8) driven by an electric motor and a casing for the motor, pump and a filter device. The supply pump transports the main flow of fuel through a central recess in the filter pot to the upstream side of the main filter of the filter device. A side channel pump, open on one side, is used as a preliminary stage (32) for the supply pump. After the preliminary filter, fuel goes to a riser (37) and from there to a pot casing (40) and to the induction region of the main stage (28).
