Electrode for solid polymer electrolyte membrane or proton exchange membrane fuel cell of electric vehicle is made by exposing proton conductive material and carbon particle film to metal atoms to form distributed metal polycrystals
Electrode structure production, by exposing a film of proton conductive material and carbon particles to a metal atom flux to form distributed metal polycrystals, is new. An electrode structure is produced by applying a mixture of a proton conductive material and carbon particles onto a current collector plate and producing a stream of metal atoms which are collected on the surface of the applied film to form distributed metal polycrystals. Independent claims are also included for the following: (i) production of a combined electrolyte/electrode structure for an electrochemical cell having a solid polymeric proton conductive electrolyte membrane, comprising the above process; (ii) a combined electrolyte/electrode structure produced as in (i); and (iii) an electrode structure produced by the above process.
