PURPOSE:To prevent an external magnetic field generation device from sticking by operating and moving the external magnetic field generation device in a direction where it approaches to and separates from the disk through a lifter after starting the rotation of a magneto-optical disk and before stopping the rotation. CONSTITUTION:A flying magnetic head 19 being the external magnetic field generation device is attached to a variable block 9 so as to be opposed to an objective lens 8 through a supporting arm 18. The head 19 is operated to be moved by a control means through the lifter 52 which abuts on position regulating piece 57 and a position regulating pawl in the direction where it approaches to the magneto-optical disk 101 after starting the rotation of the disk 101. Then, the head 19 is separated from the disk 101 before stopping the rotation of the disk 101. Therefore, the head 19 does not contact the disk 101 in a state where the head 19 is stopped. Thus, the external magnetic field generation device is prevented from sticking.
