The road safety barrier fitting machine (1) has a lifting fork (6) to carry a group (7) of panels (11) to form the barrier. A lifting arm (4) is mounted on a platform (3) with an engine. A gripper (12) is mounted at the end of the arm and has two jaws (16) which can engage a panel adjacent to its edge. The jaws can be pivoted at ninety degrees to the horizontal to position the panel vertically.
