Around the main cavity, between the two mold sections, there is a secondary cavity (12). An intermediate passage (14), up to 1 mm thick, connects the two cavities. Independent claims are also included for the method of coating a plastic molding, and the plastic molding so produced. Plastic (22) is first introduced into the main cavity. Coating material (24) is then injected under pressure, contacting the part-solidified plastic surface. During initial injection, plastic enters a peripheral secondary cavity (12) through the intermediate passage.
