Motor drive train for hybrid powered road vehicle includes IC engine and electric coupler controlled to enhance or reduce final speed which engine speed remains constant
The system uses variation in the electrical coupler to provide wide range of speeds whilst not varying engine speed to same degree. The drive system for a vehicle includes an IC engine (1) with an output shaft (2) and an electric coupler (3) comprising an upstream rotor (4) and a downstream rotor (5). At least two step-down gearing systems are provided on the output for driving the road wheels. The system drives the vehicle by the IC engine and the electric coupler at a speed dependent on the speed of the output shaft of the IC engine, with the addition or removal of a speed component by the electric coupler. A system is provided to automate the selection of gears and the operation of the electric coupler in order to provide the required final output drive speed from the system.
