The protective guide comprises two independent sections (1) which are mounted releasably, one part on the machine and the other on the cutting tool. Each section has recesses to receive paired independent shields (2) which delimit a surface not having any interstices and leaving the active part of the cutting tool visible. Shaped metal locking strips (3) are fixed inside a groove (1c1) in each of the opposite vertical edges (1c) of the guides.
