Drying of compressed air especially for metallurgical application in a metallurgical process for the production of iron, steel, pig iron or ferro-alloys involves adsorption of water vapor on adsorber, e.g. activated alumina
Possibly hot air is compressed, to above 1.5*105 Pa, then introduced into a vessel(s) for treatment or fabrication of a metal or metal alloy at a prevalent temperature of at least 150 deg C. Prior introduction into vessel (s), the compressed air is subjected to at least one stage of elimination of at least part of water vapor impurities contained in the compressed air. The air is preferably compressed to (2-5) * 105 Pa, and is introduced into the treatment vessel at 50 deg C, preferably at least 80 deg C, more preferably 110-220 deg C. At least part of the water vapor contained in the compressed air is removed by adsorption on adsorbent particles selected from zeolites, aluminas, silica gels, preferably activated or impregnated alumina. Independent claims are given for the installation used to implement the method, application of the installation in a metallurgical process, and a process for the treatment of a gas flow, particularly air containing water vapor.
