Inducible promoter for plants, useful for controlling expression of e.g. disease-resistance genes, is derived from an O-methyltransferase gene and is induced by injury or infection
Inducible promoter for plants, useful for controlling expression of e.g. disease-resistance genes, is derived from an O-methyltransferase gene and is induced by injury or infection
A nucleic acid fragment (I) contains the inducible promoter (II) from the class II O-methyltransferase (COMT) gene of plants, is new. Independent claims are also included for the following: (a) a chimeric gene (or expression cassette) (A), functional in plant cells or plants, comprising, in the direction of transcription, (I) as the 5'-regulator, a coding sequence, and a 3'-regulator; (b) a chimeric gene (A') similar to (A) but having a different inducible promoter in place of (I); (c) a cloning and/or expression vector for transforming plant cells or plants containing - 1 (A) or (A'); (d) a method for transforming plant cells by integration of (A) or (A') into the genome; (e) transformed plant cells or plants containing (A) or (A'); (f) plants containing cells of (e) or produced by method (d); (g) plants produced by growing and/or crossing plants regenerated from cells of (e); and (h) seeds from the plants of (f) or (g).
