Polypeptide with calcium-dependent serine-protease activity, for the prevention, treatment, and detection of malarial infections due to Plasmodium falciparum

A polypeptide (Pf-SUB2) having a calcium-dependent serine-protease activity, comprising a sequence (I) of 1337 amino acids (aa), or (II) of 1316 aa, both given in the specification, and their use in pharmaceutical compositions. Independent claims are included for the following: (1) nucleic acids encoding Pf-SUB2, comprising sequences of 4468 (III) or 4611 (IV) base pairs (bp); (2) vectors for cloning or expressing nucleotidic sequences encoding Pf-SUB2; (3) host cells transformed by the vectors of (2); (4) mono- and poly-clonal antibodies and their fragments capable of recognizing Pf-SUB2, obtained after administering such a polypeptide to an animal; and (5) vaccines prepared from the antibodies of (4).
