PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To generate only a trans-olefin by using cis-tetrammine-ruthenium (II) complex. ;SOLUTION: A catalyst is provided wherein cis-tetrammine-ruthenium (II) complex is used. As the complex, cis-[Ru(NH₃)₄(acetone)₂]²⁺, cis-[Ru(NH₃)₄(methanol)₂]²⁺, cis-[Ru(NH₃)₄(H₂O)₂]²⁺, etc., are preferably used. The catalyst complex used herein is obtained from cis-tetrammine-ruthenium (II) and a ligand having activity, for example, acetone, methanol, etc. As olefins to be isomerized, there are monoolfin, diolefin, etc., in terms of a boiling point of olefins compound and, for example, 30-50°C as a preferable range of the boiling point. As conditions for isomerization reaction, a solvent capable of dissolving complex, for example, methanol, acetone, etc., is used as the solvent, and its reaction proceeds generally under gentle conditions at 40-50°C.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1997,JPO
