PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for accurately measuring the concentration of nitrogen oxide in the gas to be measured and a nitrogen oxide concentration detector.;SOLUTION: The gas to be measured containing oxygen and nitrogen oxide is diffused in a first chamber 1 to which a first pump cell 6 faces and succeedingly diffused in a second chamber 4 to which a second pump cell 8 faces. The first pump cell 6 dissociates O2 and NO in the first chamber 2 to pump generated oxygen ions out of the chamber 2 and controls the concentration of oxygen in the gas coming into contact with the second pump cell 8 so as to lower the same to the utmost. The second pump cell 8 dissociated residual NO diffused in the second chamber 4 to pump generated oxygen ions out of the chamber. On the basis of the current flowing by the ion conduction of oxygen introduced into and led out of the first and second chambers through solid electrolyte layers 5-1, 5-5 by the first and second pump cells 6, 8, the concentration of nitrogen oxide is calculated in consideration of the influence of NO dissociation in the first chamber 2.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2000,JPO
