PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a substrate on the surface of which a layer containing a photocatalyst sensitive to visible light is formed, and a method for forming the layer.;SOLUTION: As for the substrate, a layer containing two or more kinds of photocatalysts different in a light absorption wavelength is formed on its surface. As for the formation method, the layer is formed by a dry process, such as vapor deposition, a sputtering method, and an ion plating method. The layer is photo-excited in response to photoirradiation to show properties, such as a hydrophilic property, a self cleaning property, an antifouling property, and an organic substance decomposing property. The layer is used for glass, a building material, a material used at a water section, and the like. By this formation method, a photocatalyst film excellent in sensitivity to visible light can be obtained, which can function even when used in a room.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2001,JPO
