PURPOSE:To provide a memory enhancer free from concern for side effects even if taken for a long period of time, containing an extract from Thuja orientalis. CONSTITUTION:Thuja orientalis from the seeds of Biota orientalis belonging to Cupressus is put to extraction at room temperature or under heating using water and/or ethanol as extracting solvent followed by, if needed, concentration of the resulting extraction liquor into a concentrate (extract), thus giving the objective memory enhancer. The dosage of the present enhancer, in the case at oral administration, is 1-100 (pref. 5-50)mg/kg body weight a day in terms of the extract. Taking the present enhancer from the time when memory is failing will have effect for restoring the old's weakened memory such as senile dementia. This enhancer is also effective for artificial dementia such as those due to amygdala damage and the inhibition of memory acquisition due to alcohol consumption.
