PURPOSE: To collectively improve the spalling resistance and corrosion resistance of a magnesia-carbon brick to be used as a lining material of a molten metal container of a converter, a melt-reducing furnace, etc. ;CONSTITUTION: The raw material for the magnesia carbon brick compose of (A) a carbon material heat-treated at ≥800°C, having a true specific gravity of ≥1.70, a fixed carbon content of ≥90wt.% and a volatile content of ≤3wt.% and containing 0.5-10wt.% of calcined anthracite and the remaining part of crystalline or amorphous carbon, (B) a magnesia-based refractory aggregate and (C) one or more kinds of materials selected from Al, Mg, Ca and Si. The brick has an elastic modulus of ≤1.2×104MPa measured by the sound-velocity method after the heat-treatment at 1400°C in a reducing atmosphere. It can be produced by adding a proper amount of an organic binder to the raw material having the above composition, mixing and forming the mixture and subjecting the formed article to the heat-treatment at 150-300°C or the reducing heat-treatment at 600-1500°C.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1994,JPO
