PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve a signal to noise ratio for a periodical signal including a noise where the amplitude distribution is Gaussian distribution by further reducing quaternary cumulants which still remains against Gaussian noise in a device, and, a method for improving a signal to noise ratio using the quaternary cumulants. ;SOLUTION: One of three variables of a quaternary cumulants function is set to a variable and the other two variables are set to parameters for a set of the same input signals and the above variable is changed for each of the combination of a plurality of different two parameters so that the initial phases of the quaternary cumulants function are all equal for a desired signal in an input signal, thus obtaining the set of quaternary cumulants.
