Updating method and apparatus for tracking templates

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve safety and to improve the reliability of a detected template by stopping updating the template, and updating the template after delay or retroactively when a wiper frame is judged in the case of updating the template to be used for trace. SOLUTION: A picked-up image is fetched and it is counted how many frames exist until the present fetched image after the last update of the template. While using a template 101 under using, an input image 102 to become a search processing object is searched and a partial image 103 wiped corresponding to the template is detected. In this case, it is the timing to update the template after the lapse of prescribed number of frames from the last template updating and the input image 102 is a wiper frame, the template is not updated but a partial image 107 detected corresponding to the next input image or input image 106, which is the first non-wiper frame, to appear later is defined as a new template.
