PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an abscisic acid-response element-binding transcription factor(ABF) which can be used for the creation of a transgenic plant which has a potential ability of activating a majority of abscisic acid(ABA)/stress- responding genes and is resistant against multiple environmental stresses. SOLUTION: A transcription factor (ABF) was isolated and studied which binds to an ABA-response element(ABRE) present in a gene promotor region regulated by abscisic acid(ABA) which is a plant hormone mediating responses to various environmental stresses to find that ABF is a bZIP class transcription factor and that the expression of ABF can be induced by ABA and various stress treatments.
