PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To check the damage caused by large-sized incombustibles in advance, and shorten the stop time of a furnace by detecting the large-sized incombustibles which may bring about an obstacle in the furnace, in a garbage incinerator which is equipped with a stoker type of hearth 3 for burning the cast-in waste while carrying it. ;SOLUTION: The terminal position of the flame is detected in every divided region, which is made by dividing, in the lateral direction of a furnace, the region of the flame image being abstracted from the image of an in-furnace monitoring camera 11 capable of monitoring the incineration treatment zone A within the furnace from the downstream side of a stoker type of hearth 3 into a width narrower than the width of, at least, incombustibles B being the target of detection. The utmost downstream side in the terminal positions of plural flames is made the one in the burning- out position, and as regards the flame terminal position apart upstream from its burning-out position, the dimension of the section between the average position of the flame terminal positions being detected in successive plural divided regions and the burning-out position is made the representative dimension, and in case that it is not less than the preset standard dimension, it is judged that large-sized incombustibles exist.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2001,JPO
