PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem of having no compatibility between systems in designing optical transmission systems which necessitates a transmission light source with different transmission characteristics, namely α parameters depending on applications.;SOLUTION: The light emitting element with an integrated semiconductor field absorption optical modulator is composed of a light emitting part oscillating with a single vertical mode and plural field absorption optical modulators arranged on the outgoing side of the light emitting part and is characterized by having an absorption edge wavelength of the modulator near to the outgoing side of the light emitting part under no bias of a semiconductor multiple quantum well structure is longer than, or equal to an absorption edge wavelength of the modulator far from the outgoing side of the light emitting part.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2001,JPO
