PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical multiplexer/demultiplexer in which a pass band characteristic is flat as well as having periodicity and in which FSR is free from restriction as in a Mach-Zehnder interferometer. ;SOLUTION: On a substrate 5 for an optical circuit, a first and a second channel waveguide 1, 2 are formed, as are a third and a fourth channel waveguide 3, 4 of different lengths; these waveguides are connected by a multi- mode coupler 6, with a partial reflection mirror 7 inserted into the prescribed place of the third channel waveguide 3, and with a total reflection mirror 8 formed at the terminal of the third and the fourth channel waveguide 3, 4.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2001,JPO
