PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a structure without breakage of anode or anode stem for the extra-high pressure mercury lamp filled with mercury more than 0.15 mg/mm3 in an arc tube. ;SOLUTION: An anode (15) and a cathode (14) are disposed at a distance between electrodes below 3.0 mm in a discharge vessel 1 made of quartz glass, in which more than 0.15 mg/mm3 of mercury is enclosed. When denoting M (gf.mm) as the moment at the foot of the anode (15) as a fulcrum and S (mm2) for cross section of the anode (15) at the fulcrum, the anode (15) is featured by having a dimension M/S ≤9.0 (gf.mm) and is also connected to a metal foil (18).;COPYRIGHT: (C)2001,JPO
