PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a surface-treated reinforcing fiber that has excellent fiber- resin adhesion and can meet a wide variety of matrix resins by treating the aramid fiber on its surface with supercritical fluid. ;SOLUTION: Aramid fiber is characteristically controlled in its crystal structure or the gaps between its crystals and its water content and impregnated or soaked with a film former, a, silane coupling agent or a mixture thereof as a surface treatment agent in a supercritical fluid, followed by heat treatment. The effect of the surface treatment can also be attained in the same way by carrying out the treatment in an aqueous medium instead of the supercritical fluid in the case where the aramid fiber has high water content.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2001,JPO
