PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make quantitatively determinable sulfate ion in the presence of persulfate ion by a simple method by quantitatively determining the persulfate ion by titrating a sample, quantitatively determining the whole cation after anion exchange treatment, and quantitatively determining sulfate ion from the difference between the whole cation quantity and the cation quantity derived from the persulfate.;SOLUTION: Persulfate ion is analyzed by a general titrimetric method, the sample is separately anion-exchanged, persulfate ion and sulfate ion are changed into bicarbonate ion, and the quantity equivalent to the whole cation is found by titrating it by mineral acid normal solution. The residual sulfate ion concentration can be measured by subtracting the cation quantity equivalent to the persulfate ion from the whole cation quantity. Hydroxyl type, bicarbonate type and the like can be used for the anion exchange resin, however, the bicarbonate type is preferable. In the bicarbonate type anion exchange resin, two inflection points are formed on the titration curve so that the concentration of the coexisting alkali hydroxide can be found by the difference between the titration quantities required for reaching the respective inflection points.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2001,JPO
